Pained over the brutal Murder of an Igbo business man ,late Charles Chimezie Nwachukwu , the Igbo Speaking Community Youth Leader in Lagos State , Dr. Okechukwu Izuegbunam, has demanded for detailed investigation and justice .
Izuegbunam, who condemned the frequent murder of Igbos in Lagos without provocation or at any slightest provocation, warned that Igbo youths under his watch will no longer tolerate such dastardly killings, particularly over property acquisitions , elections or during celebrations, noting that it is UnGodly and violates Igbo cultural values which deeply respect life.
This latest protests that erupted in Ijagemo reflects growing anger over what the protesting Youths described as frequent attacks ,killings and violation of the fundamental Rights of Igbo residents in lagos.
Tensions escalated following reports that some hoodlums allegedly led by a police officer(now in detention), invaded and murdered the deceased in cold blood in his shop.
Thereby sparking outrage among Igbo youths resident in Ijagemo , who insisted that such crime has no legal or cultural standing within Nigeria constitutional framework.
Speaking during last Friday condolence Visit by Igbo Leaders led by the President General of the Igbo Speaking Community , Chief Sunday Udeh, who was accompanied on the visit by his Executive Members and Eze Dr Chika C. Nwokedi of Ijegun / Ijedodo , Izuegbunam, who protested the cold blooded murder,said,” Enough is Enough “.
He stressed that the country’s constitution does not recognise or establish ongoing Genocide against Igbos within its borders, warning that any further repeat of such illegal activities and killings in Lagos, would be met with equivalent reactions by Igbo Youths.
Commiserating with the deceased family ,he also raised concerns about remarks allegedly made by some indigenous leaders in Ijagemo area before the deceased murder and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , Governor Babajide Sanwu Olu and the Inspector General of Police to urgently intervene to avoid injustice that could lead to breakdown of law and Order.
He further insisted that Nwachukwu ‘s brutal killing , was provocative and disrespectful to all Igbos and recognised traditional institutions.
He called for caution to prevent future violence, asserting that even the President of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would not condone such acts.
He stressed the importance of unity, justice and value for life.
Okechukwu Izuegbunam,seriously condemned recurring violent incidents in Ijagemo, Lagos, emphasising that the youth will no longer tolerate such acts.
He stated that law enforcement and the courts should handle these matters and further called on the police, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, and the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu, to ensure thorough investigations and hold all perpetrators accountable.
He insisted that such violence, including the killing of community members, is heinous crime against humanity, unacceptable, forbidden in Igboland, and must be stopped to prevent further tragedies and maintain peace.
