Under Probe Self Acclaimed “Igwe” Chukwuemeka Ugwunta Threatens Journalist, Family, Over Publication

Angered by Newspaper publications and expositions of his alleged fake National Merit Awards Claims , impersonation as a King, (Igwe) of Agbaja Umumba Community in Ezeagu local government Area of Enugu state and false , fraudulent use of Federal government National merit Awards of OON and CON, disgraced and embattled Chief Chukwuemeka Henry Ugwunta ,has resorted to threatening Journalists, their families and media Icons with death.

It will be recalled that the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Force Criminal Investigation Department,FCID Annex ,Enugu State ,through a petition filed by Ugwunta’s Community , is currently investigating the self Styled King for impersonation, threats to life and masterminding of grievous attacks on leaders of his community.

According to Police Source, evidence of his alleged impersonation was recovered as fake Customized “Igwe” vehicle plate numbers, were removed from his cars, when police executed a search warrant on Ugwunta’s house in Enugu State.

News Planet Reports that Ugwunta is very notorious for his regular threats to Journalists, alleged Hiring of assassins to terminate opponents, as well as his usual blackmailing decoy of heaping none existing petty and frivolous allegations of extortion against any Journalist that publishes his series of crime related cases.

For instance, he has exhibited the same trends of threats and unsubstantiated extortion allegations against Senior Journalist ,Chief Cyriacus Izuekwe, working with PM Express Newspaper as well as The Oaknews, Solid News reporters, after they exposed his fake Kingship claims and alleged infamous N12 million 419 fraud case perpetrated against Eze Paul Agbasiere.

In 2022, PM Express Newspaper reported the arrest of Ugwunta by Zone 2 police Operatives , over his alleged hiring of Assassins to kill Eze Agbasiere and Wife Celestina ,over Agbasiere’s demand for the refund of the scammed N12 million in 2019 , shortly after the scam was blown open by Lagos Traditional Council of Ezes.

As usual , Ugwunta was reported to have escaped to his Village ,where he was arrested and brought back to zone 2 Command lagos.

The case was later charged to Ota Magistrate Court ,before Chief Magistrate ,Mr. A.O. Onaguruwa , who granted Ugwunta N500,000 bail with two Sureties in like sum , over the 8 Count Charge bordering on Stealing, Conspiracy, 419 , etc , as presented then before the court by the Prosecutor Inspector Rose Samson.

Ugwunta and his fellow conspirators were reported to have been remanded in custody then ,pending the perfection of their bail conditions ,while case was adjourned to May 30th, 2022.

In a recorded voice trending in some platforms , which some legal Experts confirmed is tantamount to Cyber bullying and serious threats, Ugwunta after series of Curses, false allegations ,threatened to facilitate the immediate killing of the Publisher of News Planet International, Mr . Emmanuel Edom,as well as wiping out his family from the face of the Earth.

In an Interview with Mr. Edom , he Challenged the disgraced fake King to publish his evidence, as he denied having or making any financial negotiation or dealings with Ugwunta .

He revealed that his lawyers have been briefed , adding that every necessary Security and legal actions have been activated to ensure that Ugwunta is brought to book.

Meanwhile , Crime Reporters Groups and reputable Journalists Body , have condemned the threats and constant killings of Journalist, vowing to ensure that justice is done in this particular Ugwunta case .

As at the time of going to press,the fate of News Planet International Publisher, Mr. Edom and family, are uncertain, following the threat to their lives by self acclaimed Igwe Agbaja Umumba Ndindu, Chukwuemeka Henry Ugwunta .

According to him, Ugwunta was said to be angry over some news stories which was published by News Planet International.

He claimed that since Mr. Edom is the Publisher of the media platform, he should not have allowed News Planet International to publish the story that was against him.

He cursed that he will deal with Mr. Edom and family for allowing News planet International to publish the stories.

He also boasted of his mysterious fetish powers,acquired through his small gods that he said he worships, which he claimed are made up of 47 idols in his Shrines, his money and connections in government.

Mr. Edom was said to have raised the alarm because so many journalists have been killed in mysterious circumstances.

He mentioned some of journalists killed namely, Dele Giwa (1986) – Founder of Newswatch magazine, killed by a mail bomb, Tunde Oladepo (1998) – Senior correspondent with The Guardian, murdered by masked gunmen, Okezie Amarube (1998) – Publisher of Newsservice magazine, shot by a police officer, Fidelis Ikwuebe (1999) – Freelance journalist, abducted and murdered, Titus Badejo (2021) – Former presenter with Naija FM, killed by armed men, Tordue Salem(2021) – Vanguard Newspaper reporter, found dead after going missing, Maxwell Nashan (2020) – Federal Radio Corporation reporter, abducted and killed, Olubunmi Afuye (2021) – Public Relations Officer, allegedly killed by armed robbers among others.

He explained that the story in question was not written by him and there was nothing libelous about the story , as the facts are in public domain ,even as the Town Union leadership , who granted the interview did not deny the publication.

Edom said, “Chief Ugwunta started threatening to deal with me for months now and equally started making move to track me down before the information leaked”.

Mr. Edom also said he was not afraid of the threats but raised the alarm to inform the members of the public, security agencies, journalists, friends and family members, so that if anything happens to him they should know that he raised the alarm.

He stated that it was not the first time Ugwunta was harassing , intimidating and cyber bullying him and other Journalists in the course of their duties ,over unfounded allegations,

He explained that he had already contacted the Police high authorities over the alleged threat with evidence to support the claims

Explaining the Genesis of the threats, he noted that the embattled but disgraced fake “Igwe” Ugwunta ‘s ongoing investigation, started earlier when he ( Ugwunta) laid claims as the “Igwe” Agbaja Umumba Ndigbo and beneficiary of OON and CON National merit Awards,which he was said to have used to Hoodwinked Freedom University and Theological Seminary , to enable him receive a paper weight Professorship , despite having only a Secondary school certificate ,as he presented before his Community Screening Committee .

Being hunted by his false public claims of being the King of his Community at functions and in social media space, with several printed materials , banners indicating same , the embattled Ugwunta had at the peak of the expositions, dashed to Court, in suit numbers – A/9/2026, where in a failed bid to escape jail, purged himself and lied in his 25 Page affidavit under oath, that he never projected himself as Igwe.

His Community , unable to bear Ugwunta’s siren blaring nuisance, harassment and intimidation excesses, had through the Town Union leadership led by former and incumbent President Generals, Engineer Chidiebere Ugwuonye, Mr. Emmanuel Onyebuchi and Secretary General , Mr. Hilary Udeh, had initially on December 22,2025, suspended Ugwunta indefinitely ,from the Igwe ship contest and later Complained to Enugu State Government , who in turn directed them to commence criminal prosecution against the alleged Fraudster .

In line with the State Government Directives, the Community therefore petitioned the IGP, who directed the AIG FCID, whose jurisdiction the case falls under ,to activate proper investigation.

Aware of the police snare and traps , the fleeing and evasive Ugwunta , was finally trapped with a police official invite , where he was drilled and quizzed by intelligent Operatives and was later granted an administrative bail to report on May 21, 2026.

Interestingly , residents and leaders of Iyesi land in Ogun State ,have also denied recognizing or crowning Ugwunta as Eze Ndigbo of their Community.

They Challenged Ugwunta to provide any evidence of such installation in Iyesi Land.

As at press time , some Journalists in Enugu and Lagos have vowed to be at the FCID Office on May 21,2026, to monitor and follow up on Ugwunta’s investigation, to ensures it’s not swept under the carpet but gets to its logical conclusion,when Ugwunta’s prosecution is expected to commence .
