OBI NDIGBO LAGOS CONTROVERSY : Council of Ndieze Ndigbo Lagos State, Disassociates  Itself, Deny’s Involvement

In a swift move aimed at maintaining it’s cherished integrity and avoid any daint on their Royal Image, the Council of Ndieze Ndigbo Lagos State , has distanced itself from the ongoing controversy over the institution of Obi Ndigbo in Lagos State.

In a disclaimer made available to News Planet International earlier today, September 10th, 2025, Chairman ,Council of Ndieze Ndigbo Lagos, Eze Chris Offia ( KSM), vehemently denied their Association’s Involvement in the planned September 13th,2025 event and ongoing unhealthy controversy.

According to Eze Offia, ” the Council of Ndieze Ndigbo in lagos State, has nothing to do with the purported unveiling of the prototype of Obi Ndigbo Palace and do not know or reckon with the purveyors of the event “

Speaking further from his Country home in Enugu State, Eze Offia, who is also the Traditional Prime Minister, (ONOWU) of his Egede Ancient Kingdom /Community, in Udi Local Government Area, stated that “the fellow behind the controversial Obi Ndigbo in Lagos State,is unknown to us and not our member”.

He warned those bent on creating disharmony between the Igbos and their host community, using  unhealthy controversy in the name of Igbo respected institutions , like ” Obi Ndigbo”, to desist and tow a line of decency .

 It would be recalled that in the past few days, the social media has been awashed with reports and controversy trending over the purported unveiling of the prototype of Obi Ndigbo Palace in Amuwo Odofin Area.

One of the high points, was a statement credited to an alleged dethroned Osun monarch squaring off with a self-styled Obi of Lagos.

Last Tuesday, Oba Omotoyosi Bayo Akinleye, who claims to be the Olukosi of Ilukosi-Ijesa in Atakumosa West Local Government Area of Osun State, announced on X that he would file a petition against  the Self Styled Obi Ndigbo, Engineer Chibuke Azubike.

 Engineer Azubuike , who claims to be the Obi Ndigbo Of Lagos State,had In his invitation card, stated that the  event is set to feature his first Ofala and New Yam Festival, alongside grand plans for a shopping plaza, office complex, guest house for Igbos in distress, and an event centre.

The question most of the interviewed genuine Ezes and Custodians of Igbo Culture in lagos State are asking Engineer Azubuike,is , why the swelling obsession for Obi crown, palace, and title, even when no credible Igbo traditional Authority has confirmed  granting him such legitimacy.
