In a bid to enthrone Constitutionalism, as well as it’s avowed determination to change the narratives towards ending what some stakeholders described as “the hitherto decades long unconstitutional ‘One Man show controversial Board of Trustee Chairmanship “, the General Assembly of the Igbo Speaking Community , yesterday, June 23,2026, jettisoned the old Order and appointed more stakeholders as Members of it’s Board of Trustees ,BOT .

It would be recalled that the General Assembly of the IGBO Speaking Community in Lagos ,comprises of all
Members, such as :Elders Council,
State Executive Committee Members ,
Acting Local Chapter,Chairmen; Secretaries; Youth Leaders, Women Leaders and former local Chapter Chairmen amongst others.

News Planet International reports that for decades ,the Igbo Speaking Community BOT has allegedly been run by only one Man, Dr. Jonathan Nnaji, contrarily to the provision of their constitution.

It was gathered that in the last two to three decades, Dr.Nnaji had allegedly been at the helms of the affairs of the BOT ,despite protest by some stakeholders .

This scenario was said to be due partly to the hitherto crisis that bedeviled the Community ,the demise of ten former BOT Members and retirement of others , which the Community said is in breach of their constitution.

At the General Assembly Meeting held by 1 pm on June 23rd, 2026 , as announced by Prince Joshua Nnanna Kalu, the Secretary General, a motion for the constitutional expansion of the BOT membership was initiated and raised by an Isolo Chapter member of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, Chief Iyke Okwuma, Otigbuinyinya , alias Omeokachie na Isolo.after a long debate.

The Motion was seconded by Chief Samuel Nzurumike from Apapa- Iganmu Chapter of the Community.

According to him ,Nnaji has over stayed his usefulness , having unilaterally acted alone as the Board ,as well as BOT Chairman for over three decades , after the demise of Ten members out of the original 13 pioneer members .

He regretted that since two remaining living members of the BOT have retired to their villages due to old Age , with one of them above 95 years, Nnaji unconstitutionally has been acting alone without making efforts to bring new people to the Board.

However , the motion to sack Nnaji and dissolve the BOT, was over ruled by Chief Udeh ,following their lawyers constitutional interpretation.

Chief Udeh, insisted that the General Assembly can only appoint and add new persons to the list, so as to make it up to the 20 maximum membership strength ,as provided for ,by the constitutional requirement.

Vowing to lead by the tenets of the provisions of the Community’s Constitution, Chief Udeh, had at the begining of his address to the General Assembly , narrated how his efforts with his Executives ,aimed at addressing the vexed issues concerning the controversial banning of diaspora Ezeship in Lagos, was thwarted by Dr. Nnaji, who he said unconstitutionally stopped the proposed meeting with the Community ‘s Eze’s Council, by declaring that Udeh and his administration , lacked the power to summon such meeting .

Chief Udeh ‘s revelation of the numerous frustrations faced by his less than one year administration in the hands of Dr. Nnaji , was greeted with condemnation by the General Assembly , who vouched their support , urging him to lead fearlessly to achieve his set goals.

Some of the Frontline leaders who spoke In support of Chief Udeh ‘s leadership, were the Chairman of Elders Forum, Eze John Nwosu, Chairman , Electoral Committee, Ichie Anselem Njoku, Former, Factional President, Chief Sunday Eze , Chief Chris Ekwilo amongst others.

Energized by the General Assemblys’ support to his administration and their outright condemnation of the alleged Nnaji’s anti – progress antics, Chief Udeh, who charged the Ichie Njoku electoral Community to conduct their local government elections between July 23 and 30, before the Community’s August festival, then ,reeled out his achievements and proposed programmes for the Community .

He promised to ensure that his administration secures a permanent Secretariat before the end of his four years tenure, to enable the community relocate out from the long over due meeting venue in late Eze Anomnezes’s Palace.

In a remarkable and land mark cooperation strategy , Chief Udeh ‘s Igbo Speaking Community ,announced an understanding and synergy with Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Chapter, led by Chief Leonard Okafor , popularly called Oba Ojoto.

Speaking as a special guest , the Ohanaeze Ndigbo leader praised Chief Sunday Eze and Chief Udeh for settling the dispute and crisis that hitherto bedeviled Igbo Speaking Community and allowed peace to reign .

Responding, Chief Udeh ,who commended Oba Ojoto’s leadership acumen, confirmed ongoing mutual agreement between the two organizations , adding that two is better than one in making impact , especially , as the 2027 general elections approaches .
