Man 34 in court over alleged reckless driving, causing death

A 34-year-old man Rasaq Adewunmi, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged reckless and dangerous driving which resulted in loss of human life.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty. The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 21, at 11:15 p.m. at Aleje Junction, Ikorodu, Lagos.

He said that the defendant recklessly and dangerously drove on the highway having no regard for other road users; and which resulted in the death of Mr Kamorudeen Bello.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene sections 19 (1) and 20 of the Traffic Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2012. The Chief Magistrate F.A Azeez, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug.15, for mention.
