Former Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Leader in Ikorodu, Lagos State ,Chief Sunday Okechukwu Ogbu, has criticized alleged rumoured nullification of recent credible Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Election, which produced Chief Leonard Okafor, popularly known as Oba Ojoto .
Worried over what he called ” Senator John Mbata’s unhealthy, terrible and backward decision”, Ogbu, categorically stated that,” if the rumour turns out to be truth,it then means that the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World Wide, Senator John Azuta Mbata, prefers factions instead peace in Lagos Ohanaeze Ndigbo ,for whatever reasons or motives best known to him and unknown to Ndigbo in Lagos”
Querying the basis and credibility of what he described as, ” such anti – peace , anti – Igbo and unstable decisions”, Ogbu ,asked,” what will happen to Senator Mbata’s integrity , after visiting Lagos with a high powered delegation and entourage made up of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Grand Patron, Senator Martins Agbaso, Ohanaeze Secretary General and National legal Adviser, where he publicly ,before over twenty notable and prominent stakeholders and joint Ohanaeze members, directed that if the opposition were unable to vacate the Court Consent Judgement ,Chief Aguene should conduct a consolidated and unification Elections, before vacating his High Court extended tenure ,as President before April 8,2026″.
“Why then is Senator Mbata trying to brew another confusion, by taking another contrary decision contradicting himself?.This is too bad on Senator Mbata’s reputation and integrity as a Leader”.
Reiterating his position ,the vocal ex- Youth Leader, who was obviously worried and angry over the said rumoured nullification , wondered why “Senator Mbata prefers having factions in Lagos Ohanaeze, despite the exceptional and unique unity, peace and consolidation, which Former Ohanaeze Ndigbo capacity President, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, in collaboration with Chief Sunday Ossai and Oba Ojoto, achieved through their selfless peace initiatives”.
Not sure of Senator Mbata’s real intentions over his purported nullification of Oba Ojoto’s election, Ogbu alleged and stated thus ,” All peace loving Ndigbo must know that Senator Mbata is from Ikwere, and we must remember that every Ikwere person , don’t believe that they are real Igbos, except when they are in trouble or are seeking for numerical support and they don’t truly like Ndigbo. So, Iam suspecting that he has a negative Ikwere agenda, fashioned against Ndigbo, and is deliberately creating this crisis in Lagos Ohanaeze, to scatter Igbo unity , cohesion and Amity”, Ogbu said.
Vowing that the alleged election nullification will never stand or work, the Youth Leader insisted That “Oba Ojoto Remains the only elected President Ohanaeze has in Lagos, who was duly elected in the most credible, peaceful, freest and fairest election ever conducted in Lagos Ohanaeze, and was duly handed over to, by Chief Aguene, before he embarked on his business trip to the United Kingdom “.
On the suggestion that Chief Aguene should hand over to Chief Robert Obasi,in an interim arrangement, which is being speculated by Chief Kalu Uguru and was reported in an Online Newspaper, Ogbu, said that ,” it was a day dream and amnesia from a jaundiced brain, that will never come to pass”.
“This Robert Obasi take over suggestion, is alien to Ohanaeze Constitution and clearly shows how unreliable and irresponsible these anti Ndigbo rebels are. Again, it’s an evidence that there is a crack on the wall of the small opposition people, hence they are in disarray .Before these power hungry group were projecting the Enugu Town Union Chairman, Chief Linus Igbudu, now ,they have switched over to Robert Obasi, tomorrow , they may project Kalu Uguru as their President”, Ogbu said.
Ogbu, asked if Chief Aguene was responsible for the cancelation of the first election that Oba Ojoto won during Fabian Onwughalu’s tenure ,or whether he was the person that dragged the case to Court?, stressing that “Chief Aguene’s tenure which just elapsed under the terms of the consent judgment, was the best administration in the history of Ohanaeze in Lagos and Aguene remains the best ,wisest and capacity President that brought great development , progress and high quality leadership to Ndigbo in Lagos, hence it will be very difficult to get a replacement like him.It is because of his wisdom and intellectual capacity that the opposition camp attributes every publications to him, even now that he travelled to United Kingdom , they still drag his good names into every report”,Ogbu revealed.
Asking Uguru and his Co-travellers ,to tell Ndigbo if Chief Aguene, is the only person with sense and wisdom in Lagos Ohanaeze, Ogbu , mocked Uguru, reminding him that Obasi’s mandate as Secretary ,expired when Chief Sunday Ossai’s tenure finished .
Explaining that there will be no fresh elections in Lagos and that “Ohanaeze National body or Imeobi cannot and constitutionally has no business to conduct a fresh election in states, Ogbu, called on Uguru and all those he called troublesome opposition members, to apologize to Chief Aguene and Ndigbo, for the role they played in throwing the Lagos chapter into years of crisis and hindered unity and progress.
Expressing relief with the election of Oba Ojoto, Ogbu, thanked God and commended the General Assembly and the Electoral Committee led by Cally Odoemena, for doing the right thing by conducting the freest election, noting that Aguene, was properly sworn in and Chief Sunday Ossai , never traded his mandate, rather was a lawful, patriotic Igbo leader, who abandoned the crumbs, peanuts that the opposition camp where benefiting from unwary sponsors and boldly joined Chief Aguene’s Consent Judgement, by keying into the novel peace initiative by Ndigbo in lagos.
Ogbu , therefore warned Uguru and his alleged Anti – Igbo Camp, to “exit from all their senseless court matters pending and retrace their steps voluntarily”, saying that “such a move could earn them soft landing from stakeholders Condemnations and avoid the wrath of God, Ala Igbo, Nri and all Igbo deities”.
Since the alleged rumoured news of the cancellation broke, there has been condemnation reactions across Lagos and beyond. While some members have warned and advised Senator Mbata , to avoid the mistakes and similar actions by Chief Nnia Nwodo and his NEC’s intervention, during Barrister Fabian Onwughalu ‘s tenure ending, which they said brought instability and crisis in Lagos Ohanaeze Ndigbo, that Ndigbo are still suffering till date .
