Top Igbo Leader and the Outgoing President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos ,Chief, Mayor Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, has washed his hands clean and distanced himself and family from reported controversial installation of an Igbo King in South Africa.
Chief Solomon who spoke today from his Ikoyi office in Lagos, said the resemblance of his name with that of the embattled “Igwe” in South Africa , Chief Solomon Ogbonna Eziko , was just a mere names coincidence that has nothing to do with him or his family.
He explained that it became necessary to debunk and correct the wrong narratives from mischief makers , who he said had capitalized on the near similarity of the names of both distinct individuals, to dent his good image won over the years.
To cap it all ,Chief Aguene noted that he was in Nigeria as at March 14, 2026,when the crisis prone coronation was held in South Africa .
It would be recalled that widespread protests broke out in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province of East London, as residents took to the streets over a controversial coronation of an Igbo traditional ruler,”Igwe Ndigbo Na East London” ,demanding the deportation of Nigerians linked to the event.
The demonstrations was led by members of the political group ActionSA alongside traditional leaders and community members,who destroyed and burnt property belonging to Nigerians resident in South Africa.
