Pained over the brutal Murder of an Igbo business man, Charles Nwachukwu , Youth Leader, Dr. Okechukwu Izuegbunam, has demanded for detailed investigation and justice .
Izuegbunam, who condemned the act of killing, particularly during celebrations, noting that it violates Igbo cultural values which deeply respect life.
This reflect growing anger over what protesting Youths described as frequent attacks ,killings and violation of the fundamental Rights of Igbo residents in lagos.
Tensions escalated following reports that some hoodlums allegedly led by a police officer, invaded and murdered the deceased in cold blood in his shop.
Thereby sparking outrage among Igbo youths resident in Ijagemo , who insisted that such crime has no legal or cultural standing within Nigeria constitutional framework.Speaking during the protest, one demonstrator expressed support for local traditional authorities and rejected the legitimacy of the coronation. He stressed that the country’s constitution does not recognise the establishment of foreign traditional rulerships within its borders, warning that any illegal activity by undocumented migrants would be met with deportation.
The protester also raised concerns about remarks allegedly made during the ceremony, claiming they suggested plans to establish a form of “homeland” in the province. He likened this to South Africa’s painful apartheid-era history, where people were forcibly relocated to designated territories, and warned that such ideas would not be tolerated.
He further dismissed claims that the coronation was merely symbolic, insisting that it was provocative and disrespectful to recognised traditional institutions. According to him, protesters expect both the South African and Nigerian governments to clearly reject any attempt to create parallel authority structures.
He called for caution to prevent future violence, asserting that even the President of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would not condone such acts.
He stressed the importance of unity, justice and value for life.
Okechukwu Izuegbunam condemned recurring violent incidents in Ijegemo, Lagos, emphasising that the youth will no longer tolerate such acts. He stated that law enforcement and the courts should handle these matters and called on the police, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, and the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu, to ensure thorough investigations and hold all perpetrators accountable.
He insisted that such violence, including the killing of community members, is unacceptable, forbidden in Igboland, and must be stopped to prevent further tragedies and maintain peace
