In strict compliance to the directives of their President General , Senator John Azuta – Mbata, of the Apex Pan Igbo Socio – Cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo World Wide , the Lagos State Chapter of the group, yesterday , March 30, 2026,set up an electoral committee to conduct a unified general election for their members .
News Planet International reports that the move to constitute a broad based Electoral Committee , was seen and applauded by a cross section of Igbo Stakeholders, who saw it as a step forward ,towards final reconciliation of the hitherto warring factions, following a long crisis that bedeviled the Organization for years.
It was a speech making day as top Igbo Leaders , such as the likes of the First President of Ohanaeze in Lagos State, Chief John Uche ,another former President, Chief Oliver Akubueze,Chief Chris Ekwilo,another Emeritus President , Barrister Fabian Onwuhalu, Onyendu Uche Dimgba, Eze Chris Offia, other leaders and stakeholders, addressed the large gathering , Commended Chief Solomon Aguene and Chief Sunday Ossai ‘s Peace and reconciliatory initiatives ,while reeling out Ohanaeze past historical background and perspectives .

Four candidates who signified their interest to Contest for the exalted office of Ohanaeze Ndigbo President ,were allowed to campaign and address the Igbo gathering.
The Contestants are ACP Ben Osuji (retd), Chief Leonard Okafor (Oba Ojoto), Chief Emmanuel Uba(Otumba Ojoto) and Chief Henry Imo.
Earlier , the out going President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos,Chief Solomon Aguene ,in his opening remarks expressed appreciation to the entire Ndigbo and Stakeholders that made the peace initiative a success story.
Speaking in an interview with News Hunters, Chief Aguene, appreciated the efforts and fatherly intervention of Senator Mbata, which he said sealed the peace moves initiated by some stakeholders in Lagos.

According to Chief Aguene, “Today is one of my happiest day, as Ohanaeze Ndigbo has in one voice and accord, inaugurated the electoral committee to conduct an election that will usher in new officers both at Local Government levels and State Executive level”.
Speaking on criteria used in choosing the Electoral Committee members, Aguene noted that those selected are tested and experienced, having been Ohanaeze Ndigbo members for between 10 years and 20 years.
He assured Ndigbo that Senator Mbata will be in Lagos to observe the forth coming elections and promised maximum security before, during and after the electoral process, noting that his Leadership is cooperating and carrying the Lagos State government along.

Giving his own perspective on efforts to bring other dissenting voices to the peace initiatives, Onyendu Gburugburu Lagos State , Uche Dimgba, who expressed dissatisfaction with the attitude of the opposition , called on the state government to partner Ndigbo without discrimination , threats and use of derogatory language .
However, Dimgba , who spoke along with Onyendu South West, Gerald Onuchukwu, advised their Igbo brothers to respect the host community and to know their limits and bounds .

However , Chief Aguene gave a hint that more seasoned individuals would be added to the committee ,so as to address the complaints of some local government areas.

Speaking shortly after their inauguration by the Organization’s Lawyer, the new Electoral Committee Chairman , assured Ndigbo that his Team will conduct a free, fair and credible elections.
Chief Odoemena , who did not give any specific date for the elections ,promised to abide by the Ohanaeze Bye – Laws in the conduct of the election.
He vouched on his integrity and vowed not to sell his conscience by collecting bribe from contestants .
The meeting indeed was a roll call of who is who in Ndigbo leadership structure ,as many top Ndieze’s, Ndindu,Igbo leaders both in Igbo Speaking Community and Ohanaeze Ndigbo attended the inauguration .
