Ondo Police Defend Legality of Idanre Arrest, Reiterates Zero Tolerance for Corruption

The Ondo State Police Command under the leadership of CP Adebowale Lawal psc(+), mnips wishes to address recent allegations published by Sahara reporters on 2nd of March, 2026 circulating in relation to the arrest of 6 suspected fraudsters over miracle scam in Idanre.

The Command states unequivocally that the arrest in question was conducted in strict compliance with due process and established criminal investigation procedures. At no time were laid-down operational guidelines compromised.
Furthermore, the suspects voluntarily made confessional statements in both written and video-recorded formats, wherein they alluded to their involvement in the alleged offence. These statements were duly obtained in accordance with extant legal provisions and will form part of the evidence to be relied upon in the course of prosecution.
Notwithstanding, the allegation has been formally noted, and the Command has ordered a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation to ascertain the true facts of the matter. This investigation will be comprehensive and independent, in line with the Command’s unwavering commitment to accountability and professionalism. The Command therefore urges the aggrieved parties to come forward and provide detailed information and any supporting evidence in respect of these allegations to aid the ongoing investigation. Their cooperation is crucial to ensuring a thorough, impartial, and transparent review of the matter, as the Command remains committed to uncovering the truth and upholding justice in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police categorically states that he has never directed, and will under no circumstances direct, any person to collect money for any purpose whatsoever. Such conduct runs contrary to the ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force and the zero-tolerance stance of the Command on corruption and misconduct.
The Ondo State Police Command remains steadfast in its dedication to community-centred policing and the protection of lives and property across the State.
Members of the public are assured that any officer or individual found culpable, following the outcome of the investigation, will be dealt with decisively and in accordance with the law.
