The Executive Members of the Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos, have debunked allegations of internal Crisis amongst them ,as well as purported Sidelining of the Financial Secretary and treasurer in the operation of their Union Bank account by the President General, Chief Sunday Udeh and his Deputy, Chucks Odimegwu.
This is coming on the heels of recent allegations as reported in a publication by an Online Newspaper(Names Withheld), accusing the PG and his deputy of misappropriation and continued operation of the Associations bank account, as signatories ,while sidelining the Financial Secretary and Treasurer of the community.
Debunking the allegations, the Secretary General , Prince Joshua Kalu, Assistant Secretary ,Mrs Stella Uju and the Chief Security Officer, Sir Eric Okechukwu Nwafor, exonerated Chief Udeh and Odimegwu of any wrong doings, noting that their Community ‘s funds are in safe hands of the treasurer .
Speaking in an interview with News Planet International, Igbo Speaking Community’s Secretary General ,Prince Joshua Nnanna Kalu debunked the allegation and said the allegations were baseless and misleading.
Giving a graphic account of the Community’sĀ administration , Prince Kalu, stated that :” this is the handwork of Jobless people and rumour mills.Before our inauguration of September 14, 2025, we set up a committee to handle and overseer our finances and their report is not ready yet”.
Explaining , he said ,”As the Secretary General that takes records,Iam the Administrative head that runs the Secretariat ,so , Iam in the best position to give proper account of our finances . I can categorically state here that since this year, our PG , has not handled anything concerning money or our finance,” .
According to him, “Our PG doesn’t handle money ,It’s my office as the Secretary General , ,the Financial Secretary and the treasurer that are handling the finances since this year.All money and funds are paid into the treasurer’s account and the reason is because we just merged the hitherto factions ,Again, we have not formalized the account that we have been using before now”.
The statement collectively affirms the associationās commitment to transparency and accountability in financial matters, reinforcing that proper checks and balances remain in place.
Confirming integrity, separation of power, checks and balances and the Associationās commitment to transparency and accountability in financial matters, Prince Kalu stated thus : “Our account is open for any member to check , we are the record keepers and I run the Secretariat .For instance we are raising funds now for three wake keepings of our late members , even yesterday , I briefed the Community on the state of our finance , available funds and expenses “.
He said those circulating such rumours are just making mistakes and fooling themselves.
Prince Kalu stressed that any circulating reports suggesting otherwise constitute āfake newsā and urged community members to consult official channels for accurate information.
Collaborating what Prince Kalu said, the Chief Security Officer, CSO,Sir Eric Okechukwu Nwafor, said the allegations are false because he created a desk for the secretaries and treasurer , besides,”the PG doesn’t handle finances”
Further Debunking and dispelling the rumours over the allegations, Assistant Treasurer , Mrs Stella Uju, lashed at the publication , saying that the rumour was from “the pit of hell”.
She said that the treasurer is keeping the Community’s finances for now because they have not finalized the regularization of their account after their inauguration .
